About Me
Early Learning and Child Care

This blog is aimed at any parent who is looking for advice about child care and early learning. I do not work in this industry. My name is Keira, and I am just another loving parent who wants the best for her child. When my child was 2 years old, I decided to return to work. This was the beginning of my search for child care. Over the next couple of months, I learnt lots of useful things from other mothers and those who work in the industry. I hope this blog helps you to make the right choice when it comes to child care.

4 Ways Family Day Care Centres Benefit Your Children

Lesa Miller

Family day care centres are a relatively new concept and you may be indecisive about whether or not they are the right place for your child. Your worries and concerns are important and valid. Below are some ways a day care centre will be of benefit to your child.

Easier transition

A family day care centre is similar to the widely known commercial day care centre program but in a home setting. The care provider offers day care services in their homes. This means that your child will have an easier time in transitioning and adapting to the new change as compared to commercial day care centres. Because of the home setting, the child may find it more comfortable and convenient for them because in their minds, they will try to relate the new environment to their usual home.

More individual attention

Named, as the biggest difference between family day care and commercial day care centres is the child to care provider ratio. Most commercial day care centres may have one provider dealing with up to ten children at once. However, for family day care, the maximum number of children per care provider is six. Most educators choose to go for less, in order to be able to give them more attention. With this kind of attention, your child will be more excited about developing their skills and pursuing their talents. You will also be able to know the strengths of your child in order to focus on and nurture them.

Feeling of safety

Your child will feel safe when they are in family day care centre because it will feel just like home. This is especially true if the centre is just across the streets or few blocks away. They will know that they are close by home so nothing could go wrong. They will also feel safe and happy because they get to bond with they care providers and educators more than in regular day care centres. This may be because family day care centres can provide care for a child from six months to twelve years. With time, the family day care centre could be like a second home for your children. They will feel safe to confide in their care providers and ask for help whenever necessary.

Consistency

With commercial day care centres, you may have to get different baby sitters in special days like holidays, weekends, or when you have impromptu engagements. However family day care centres provide 24/7 services. This means you can always take them there, which is more consistent as opposed to frequently introducing them to new people.
